Pronouns
Pronouns replace nouns. Instead of having to repeat the same noun over and over again, you can use pronouns.
Personal pronouns that refer to people or things are: I, me, you, he, him, she, her, we, us, they, them.
It’s important to note that pronouns should be used with caution. With any element in writing, don’t overuse. Everything should be balanced.
What should you be mindful of when using pronouns?
- When you begin a new paragraph, restrain from using pronouns in your topic sentence. After you specify what noun is at hand, then you may use pronouns.
- When there’s two or more people with the same gender, use the name of the person instead of a pronoun to improve clarity.
