
Comparative Adjectives
Comparative adjectives compare two nouns, showing that one noun has more of a certain quality than the other noun.
Be careful about using double comparisons. Do NOT combine “more/less” with an “~er” form.
Incorrect: I am more smarter than him.
Correct: I am smarter than him.
Comparative adjectives can be used with the word “than” or without it. It can also be used with the word “the”.
- With the word “than”: She is taller than my younger sister.
- Without the word “than”: She is becoming taller.
- With the word “the”: The taller she becomes, the more confident she feels.
